Stitch Fix, Fall 2015 Edition!

In Hawaii, we can't wear all the same fall fashions as our friends on the mainland. We also don't have as many shops and many online retailers charge for shipping or require minimum purchase amounts. If you don't have a lot of time for shopping, don't want to bother looking for clothes online, hate shopping for clothes, are in a style rut, or just feel so limited to the choices you have available to you- (like me!) I urge you to check out Stitch Fix! Stitch Fix also has special sizes like maternity and petite- (like me again!) The sizing is spot on accurate. I've never had an item that did not fit!  The styles are also appropriate! I'm pretty sure my stylist Gillian has magical powers :D

 Stitch Fix assigns a personal stylist to pick 5 clothing or accessories to fit your taste/budget. Buy what you like and return what you don't like.

1. Fill out your Style Profile on Stitch Fix

2. Pick the date to receive your shipment

NOTE: you will be charged a $20 styling fee, but ONLY after you pick the date to receive your shipment AND that $20 will be applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment.

3. Try everything on at home!

4. Buy what you like and return the rest

You have 3 days to decide and you’re only charged for these items when you tell  Stitch Fix what you’re keeping and returning. Check out by logging in to your account to pay for those items you want to keep. The $20 styling fee will be applied as credit towards any items you purchase. If you buy all five items, you get 25% off the entire purchase!

Returns are simple! A prepaid mailing bag is included in your "Fix." All you have to do is drop it at any USPS mailbox.  Stitch Fix clients enjoy free shipping both ways! This is such a bonus if you live in Hawaii, like me :)

5. Leave specific feedback for your stylist

If you choose to receive regularly scheduled shipments,  Stitch Fix will automatically schedule the delivery date for your next shipment. You can always choose an alternative date or opt out of regularly scheduled shipments entirely.

LOVE this too! Price was a bit steep for what I'd pay for a blouse (also, the other Pixley blouse was $48) but I still LOVE it. I LOVE the fit, style and colors. Again, love that the print is subtle.

Gillian really topped herself! I kept all 5 pieces last time too, but this fix is by far my favorite! She TOTALLY gets me! As usual, everything fit perfect. I'm so happy! These are all pieces I can wear year round and also layer with ease. It has been so hot and humid in Hawaii and we can't wear as many fall fashions as the mainland U.S.! I LOVE the details too: button sleeves, lining and pockets. I'm excited to blog about this one! Thank you and please let me always have Gillian as my stylist! She is the reason I keep coming back to Stitch Fix and I will be telling all my friends about it too :)

I didn't return anything this time, but if you need to, you the process for Stitch Fix is super simple! For example, for my first fix, I returned 2 out of the 5 items. All you need to do is place items in prepaid enclosed USPS envelope..

And place into any USPS drop box!

You can schedule your next "Fix" as soon as you check out online. Remember, you have 3 days to decide what items you will keep/return, but the sooner you decide, the sooner you can schedule your next Fix! You can schedule regular Fixes to occur as soon as 2-3 weeks (and can cancel at any time).

Some tips on getting a successful  Stitch Fix:

Be specific! You don't get a lot of space, but you can make the most of what they allow you to share. Here's what I wrote for my 1st  Stitch Fix:
LIVE IN HAWAII WHERE IT IS WARM YEAR ROUND, BUT TRAVEL A LOT ON COLD AIRPLANES AND TO COLD PLACES. I LOVE SCARVES AND RECENTLY DISCOVERED BLANKET SCARVES. I LOVE LIGHTWEIGHT LAYERING PIECES, ESPECIALLY VESTS! I LOVE BAGS BUT WANT TO STAY AWAY FROM BLACK. I CAN'T WEAR CLOTHING IN THE COLORS MARKED ABOVE (BEIGE, GREEN, TEAL, ORANGE, BURGANDY, YELLOW), BUT CAN WEAR IN ACCESSORIES IF MIXED IN OR ON ITS OWN IN A BAG, FOR EXAMPLE.

I also created a Pinterest board* which helped a LOT, because my stylist was able to find specific items I pinned. Also, be as specific as possible and say what exactly you like about the item(s) in the pin. For example, if you like a sweater in a pin, but don't like the color, etc. Be sure to leave enough room in your request box to include a link to your specific board!

Rocksbox Review

Rocksbox is like Netflix for jewelry. For $19 a month, you can receive 3 pieces of jewelry to borrow or purchase.

First, fill out a style profile and pick some items for your wishlist and Rocksbox will send you 3 pieces within a week.



You can hold on to the pieces as long as you want and send them back when you're ready for 3 new pieces.

If you want to purchase one (or more) of the pieces, you can, at an "insiders' price" which is about 25% off. You also receive $10 of "shine spend" every month. You can apply the $10 to any piece you decide to keep.

The $10 shine spend goes away at the end of the month and does not carry over to the next month, however, each new month brings $10 of shine spend!

My first box was pretty good! I had been on the hunt for the perfect statement necklace. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I didn't want it to look too cheap. This one was perfect! The price was good too. Since I used a code for my first month to be free, I got $10 off in shine spend.

Tip: Start your subscription in the MIDDLE of the month since the shine spend replenishes every month, you can get at least two boxes, and the shine spend will cover the $19 monthly fee (IF you decide to purchase at least one item from each box!)

My second box was nice, but the stylist seemed to have gotten my wishlist confused with someone else's. I thought I would get at least one item on my wishlist (REALLY wanted a Loren Hope cuff or statement ring!) and my stylist thought she was able to fulfill one of my wishes; only, I never wished for the item.

My 3rd box was pretty awesome! I wore all 3 pieces and would have kept it all, except 1. Rocksbox doesn't offer any additional discount if you purchase all 3 (Rocksbox, if you're reading this, you should consider this suggestion!) 2. I found one of the items on another website for $10 less. When I reached out to Rocksbox, they were super fast and nice about it, but told me they could not price match the particular website. They did mention that I would be saving $10 on the item anyway if I used my "shine spend." I did not want to use my shine spend on the item I could get (brand new) for $10 less on another site! and 3., Although I absolutely LOVED the necklace, the chain was very dark, I'm guessing from all the wear it gets from being passed around? Anyhow, the photo on their website shows a brighter gold chain and in this case, I would prefer getting a new or newer piece.



The good thing about Rocksbox is that you can try these pieces and see how it works in your wardrobe. You can also see how the piece wears, as in, with time. As I mentioned, the chain on the necklace gets very dark after a while. This worked for me, as I like a darker look to my metals, but I wasn't sure I was ready to spend the money at this time. You can also request pieces again, so I will probably be testing this option somewhere down the line.

This is my 4th fix. Apologies for not keeping up with the reviews! (Stitch Fix 2 and 3 were just OK, ended up only keeping one item from each fix) Will complete the details on those some day ;)

I requested Gillian again and was SUPER SPECIFIC: I wanted the Margaret M Emer Cropped Straight Leg Pant, BLACK ONLY. Also wanted longer length/tunic tops w/ elbow length sleeve or longer. Still interested in the Laiya sweatshirt & Market & Spruce Jahana Vest if anyone returned theirs (those items weren't available for my last fix) Nothing trendy, very simple clothing!

This was PERFECT! Great fit and length and the fabric felt nice too! I am a bit worried it might shrink and wrinkle easily but hoping for the best. The Chevron print is subtle and the color is great!

Update: I get a LOT of compliments on this top! It is so cool and comfortable in the hot Hawaii weather! I will be requesting more of these types of tops in future fixes!

Again, SO happy Gillian found a vest, but did not care for the fabric of this one. Looked very wrinkly and shapeless, even with drawstring. Very long too. Did like the snap off hood! Will keep anyway!

Here's the feedback I left for my stylist:

I hope to keep Gillian as my stylist! She Totally did an awesome job and I'm keeping all of it! Prices were a bit higher than my budget for clothes but found it worth it for quality pieces and getting exactly what I wanted and needed! Thank you so much! I can't wait for my next fix! I will be requesting Gillian again! Thank you, this is my best Fix so far! Looking forward to more fixes like this! Loved that everything was timeless and classic and fit was spot on. Style and colors were perfect too! Thank you Gillian! I look forward to more Fixes with Gillian as my stylist!

The bottom line: 5 pieces totaled $332. Minus the $20 styling fee and Buy 5 Discount of 25% and the total I ended up paying was $234 which is WAY more than I spend on clothing, let alone only 5 pieces of clothing, however; if you plan and budget accordingly, you can use these pieces with items you already own and wear them many times throughout the season. I've already worn these pieces countless times and the quality is quite nice compared to cheaper clothing in my wardrobe.

I originally planned to schedule a fix one per season. But because this fix cost so much, I won't be scheduling another until fall..

..Unless I get credit or win a contest!  A great feature of Stitch Fix is their referral program.  For every friend you get to sign up using your unique referral link (mine is posted throughout this blog), once their first fix ships, you get a $25 credit!
